It’s here;  THE FOURTH ANNUAL DRAGON BOAT RACES in Lake Gregory. This fun event is sponsored by “FOR Parks,” a non-profit organization that secures funds for youth programs at San Bernardino County Regional Parks.  Last year, 16 teams competed in these races, but this year we are expecting close to 32. And I’m thinking that each year it will continue to grow and grow.

WHAT IS DRAGON BOATING? It’s a boat of 12 paddlers, a drummer and a steers-person paddling to cross the finish line faster than their competition. These races began in Southern China and dragon boating is the fastest growing international team water sport.

Saturday, August 14, 2010 ( 10:00 AM) 16 teams will begin, followed by the next 16 with directions from their coxswain.  Admission: $3.00

Sunday, August 15, 2010 (9:15AM) the professional dragon boat racers will compete.  Admision: $3.00

Registration & cost: $5 per person. You must be at least eight (8) years old. Forms to register can be found at SPECIAL EVENTS.

We have some interesting “bugs” in our local mountains. And 99% of the time, they’re not welcomed. As  a REALTOR,  when I sell a home, more often than not a Pest Report is ordered.

Our most common and most destructive  ”pest” in Lake Arrowhead, and other mountain towns, is the Subterranean Termite.  These little buggers love wood, and we in the mountains are all about wood.   Subterranean Termites attack the wooden elements of homes & businesses.
