Who doesn’t like an old Hollywood “Movie Star” story? That’s what I thought.

I don’t  enjoy having” garage/yard sales…I like going to them, but not having them. And this weekend David decided he was having one. Of course he roped me into helping him set up. Well, set up turned into several hours of selling “junk.”

One woman asked me about my “Shirley Temple” porcelain doll. She bought it, then proceeded me to tell me a great story….

My best friend is a good friend of Priscilla Presley, and one day the two of them called a Realtor and asked to be shown a lakefront estate  in a gated area called Shelter Cove. (The home had once belonged to a well-known mogul, but the woman couldn’t recall whom: Maybe Van Nuys, Nabisco or Hilton).  The Realtor didn’t have time to show them around, but opened the estate for them. The women promised to lock it up once they were done. While snooping around, opening drawers and cupboards (as women do), they came across a treasure trove of OLD Hollywood “Movie Star” pictures. They were elated!

Dumping the photos on the living room floor, the ladies began separting them into years: 30′s, 40′s, 50′s. “Oh this is Shirley Temple” Priscilla said, holding up a picture of Shirley Temple as a child..  “Oh no, I don’t think so.” The friend shook her head.

A voice from behind spoke up, “It is Shirley Temple.”  They turned and found Shirley Temple (Black) standing behind them! Evidently Shirley was up in the area and saw that someone was in the home and she wanted to come see the place where she had spent so much time as a little girl. Her family had owned Lake Arrowhead property, and of course she had been in Lake Arrowhead during the filming of some of the movies she starred in.

The three women ordered food to be delivered and ended up staying til midnight, sorting through and enjoying those old Hollywood “Movie Star” pictures… and stories.

P.S. Shirley Temple (Black) did not recognize Priscilla Presley until they came to the 50′s pictures and Shirley said, “Oh, these were the years of “Elvis the Pelvis…” at which time she looked over at Priscilla and said, “Oh, now I know who you are…”

Strolling around the Village, you’ll find that “most” shops have a water dish outside their doors for your thirsty pooch. You’ll also find those handy “Poo-Bag” dispenser boxes throughout the Village, making it easy for you to pick up after Fido. 

I recently wrote a post, The Wishing Well, and mentioned how pet-friendly Mary’s gift store is. You can even bring your four legged friend into the shop with you. We, at RE/MAX Lakeside in The Village, also welcome pets. So, next time you want to come to the Village, bring Man’s (and Woman’s) Best Friend.

Many of the shops in The Village also carry “duck food,” that you can buy so you can help keep our feather friends plump.

Don’t forget to drop by THREE DOG BAKERY while you’re out and about. Your pet will THANK YOU.
